World Suicide Prevention Day 2023

In November 2005, my housemate Jay was feeling very low about seeing not seeing his children for over 3 months.

I had tried to help him emotionally and mentally but with hindsight I should have done more.

One afternoon, I left for work and Jay made jokes about watching Hollyoaks together later.

But we never did watch that episode.

When I returned home, Jay had taken his own life.

I was the one who found him and called the Ambulance.

18 years later and that day is still fresh in my mind.

Very rarely have I ever spoken about the incident.

When I do, or write about it like now, I get cold chills in my body.

I am still not best equipped to talk about it.

So I am going to link below to the Samaritans website.

It is best to read from the experts how to help someone you know who may be at risk.

Over the years I have read several posts on social media about other people who died by suicide.

There is still so much stigma attached to the topic.

The numbers of people in the UK who take their own lives is increasing every year.

So one thing is for sure – WE MUST DO MORE. WE MUST DO BETTER.

Together we have to help more people.

I have my own ideas of what that looks like.

This WANAP project is all about improving mental health and healing.

It is impossible to put yourself into the mindset of someone who would contemplate taking their own life.

But what I am able to do is to take daily actions to improve my own life..

I can inspire others by my own positive journey – even a total stranger and never even know about it.

I can certainly keep a closer eye on those around me – my friends and family.

Most importantly – we can keep talking about positive mental health every single day, not just on days like today.

I hope you are never in the position to have such difficult conversations. But if you are, then I am sure the below will help.

Sending you all the blessings in the Universe for your day ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
